Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is quite a broad term that encompasses a multitude of specific methods, procedures and techniques employed by Internet marketing experts to improve the visibility of websites in the eyes of the public. This definition barely sketches the idea of SEO, as nowadays the concept is also interwoven with things like Search Engine Marketing, as well as a variety of other online marketing processes, all with their own subtleties and technicalities.

Due to this fact, SEO has the reputation of being complicated and difficult to grasp, and has become a common source of confusion among the online community. We can’t argue about the fact that SEO is not the easiest concept to get the hold of, and as we will discuss hereinafter, some aspects of it may not even divulged to the public; however, what we can and will do is try to understand its basics and discuss the aspects that are accessible and relevant to us.

The whole idea behind SEO is to boost websites’ positions mainly through “organic” practices, whose focal point are the major search engines, particularly Google – the crowned king of all search engines. The term “organic” refers to the old-fashioned method of increasing a site’s prominence, which is in the form of natural online user searches rather than by paid ranking. Organic practices are very effective, and with the right implementation and support, organic SEO may be all that your site needs to keep up the pace with the competition.

How search engines manage to accomplish the feat of managing hundreds of thousands of user searches each day and do it flawlessly and efficiently really remains a mystery. However, one thing is for certain - the developers that make search engines tick are never going to tell us exactly how they do it, and with good reason. If they did, everyone out there would be attempting to leverage this knowledge by lifting their websites’ positions in an artificial, illegitimate manner and the world of the Internet would be struggling in chaos.

Putting this aside, let’s focus on the fundamental aspects that are transparent to us and should always be addressed properly to ensure the success of a SEO plan. First, the right SEO strategy should place the emphasis on relevance, which should be reflected in each section of the website – from the keywords used in titles and content to the internal and external links embedded on its pages. Ensuring content relevance is also crucial to bringing in more targeted visitors, thus helping the expansion of the commercial activity.

The site’s user interface and overall design, anchor texts and even the use of images and animations may influence its position in search engine results, so the whole process of SEO can be time consuming and laborious. However, the results of good SEO work are equally rewarding and can help the online business achieve longevity and financial prosperity in the market through the welcoming of larger numbers of prospective customers to its products or services.
